Engineers, programmers, product managers and executives from across the company embraced the project and participated. Among the new products created are:

  • A methodology to turn waste heat and process waste from brewing into inexpensive, onsite energy. It was created in concert with one of the world’s largest brewers
  • A data analysis, reporting and engineering tool for wind turbines that turned data the company already collected into a saleable solution to help power companies optimize the output from their turbines.
PROBLEM

For a large company like GE, new product development is often quite costly and time consuming. It also limits input to the members of the development team. GE had a great idea to change that with its Imagination Jams. GE solicited needs from customers and then posted them to an online information sharing system open to the entire company. So an engineer in Wind Power could share ideas to solve a problem in Medical, Turbines, jet engines or any part of the company. The challenge was getting these busy professionals to pay attention, care and participate.

SOLUTION

BlueStar made the Imagination Jams fun. We created a music theme for the overall project and an icon system to identify and organize projects across markets. The company created teams for each business and BlueStar produced a video with each team discussing the customer challenges they had been presented with to start the thought process. The messaging was delivered through email, internal intranet banners, posters, elevator wraps, building wraps and other internal communications channels.
